Dear Mr. Gangal,

Well, there is nothing in Narender Pani's article which addresses the issue of lopsidedness in these global negotiations. Following paragraph from Brooks' article is really what bothers the developed world i.e. loss of power. So, immediately, its negatives are highlighted.

Quote Today power is dispersed. There is no permanent bipartisan governing class in Washington. Globally, power has gone multipolar, with the rise of China, India, Brazil and the rest.
This dispersion should, in theory, be a good thing, but in practice, multipolarity means that more groups have effective veto power over collective action. In practice, this new pluralistic world has given rise to globosclerosis, an inability to solve problem after problem. Unquote

By the same token, all democracies in the world should be damned because, as everyone knows, the decision making in democracies is extremely slow, since each and every section of the population has to be heard.

If the world has changed, it has to be accommodated. Russia is rising again and the global shortage of resources makes it a pivotal nation once again. If US is bankrupt and China has accummulated reserves of USD 2 Trillion, that has to be accommodated. If India wants to be treated with respect, it needs to hold firm on issues important to it. Notice how China is holding firm on the subject of censorship of websites during the Olympics or at all other times.

But all of these are just issues arising from Brooks' article.

My point was different. If you are forwarding stuff as part of "Granthali Wachak ChaLwaL" , I want to know what is the basis for selection of materials to be sent. In this article, Brooks laments.."In a de-centered world, all it takes is a few well-placed parochial interests to bring a vast global process tumbling down."

Aha !

If you see David Brooks' NYTimes website, his entire focus is on USA and most of his articles are related to Obama this and Obama that. Must I be interested in reading or forwarding this stuff?

Also, I would like to see Marathi articles which we get to read very little. No point in forwarding international stuff available on internet.

Hope you understand where I am coming from.....Regards..Madhav Bhave, Singapore
